We had a lot of moments whens we felt we were being helped so things would go smoothly. One of them was definitely Wednesday morning. We had asked the day before about a continental breakfast, and the lady told us it started at 6:00. Actually, the really nice and expensive buffet breakfast started at 6:00, but there wasn't anything continental about it. When we showed up that morning and realized our mistake, we started walking away and she called us back with a wink, and she said, "I can get a coupon, you can have breakfast on us!" It was such a nice thing for her to have done, we were very much appreciative (and we also made sure we only ate enough instead of gorging ourselves like we would have done if we had paid). It was very nice of them, and a great way to start off the morning.
Then we went to Macy's to see the huge pipe organ and Christmas tree, and even got to see a bit of the Dicken's Christmas Land they had set up (though we realized after seeing half of it that the door wasn't supposed to be opened, so we left). That was fun, but then it was time to check out of the hotel and start heading to the actual reason we were in Philly.
We drove across the river and got to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia where Cameron had his first interview for a pediatric anesthesiology fellowship. I was a bit nervous about driving in the city, but it went well, and we got him to his interview in plenty of time. His interview went great, and the boys and I had a lot of fun walking through the U-Penn Museum of Archeology and Anthropology. I was really excited to see it, but I wasn't sure how the boys would do. They actually really enjoyed it! They were very well behaved, and Samuel especially enjoyed the Egyptian sections, which made me very happy. He was very good about not touching anything, and Caleb was very patient in his stroller.
We then wandered around the hospital (they had some fun stuff in the entrance) and outside for a while. We saw some ambulances parked that Samuel wanted to see, so we got closer. The driver came back with the stretcher, saw Samuel, and asked if he wanted to turn on the lights! So Samuel got to turn on the lights, and was a very happy boy. A few minutes later, we met up with Cameron at the car and headed home.
It was a short trip, but a whole lot of fun. We thoroughly enjoyed out time in Philadelphia, and I'm very happy to have finally had a chance to go. Cameron felt really good about his interview and loved the hospital, so that was very exciting, too!
