Life is Good

Lately, Caleb hasn't been sleeping well at all, and it has been making me a little bit grumpy at times. A couple of nights ago, he woke up at 9:00 and wouldn't go back to sleep until well after 11:00, and he kept me up the whole time. Then he woke up three hours later, and two hours after that. It feels like I have a newborn again! So yes, I was getting a bit grumpy. But you know, every once in a while things happen that help us keep our own lives in perspective.
This morning at 3:30 I was woken up by a fire truck blaring its sirens and traveling at full speed past my window. A little later, Cameron and I realized that there was a cop making sure no one went down a nearby street, and we knew something serious had happened. So the boys and I took a walk today to see the damage - 8 apartments a few buildings over were completely burnt down. It was very sobering to realize that these poor families have lost almost everything.
The miracle is that no one was hurt; a nearby neighbor was a hero and ran around getting people out of their homes and called the fire department, so there were no injuries. But when I think of the things I would lose if our apartment were to catch fire, it breaks my heart. It's not like we really have anything of value, but the pictures and books and all those things that are only important to me and my family that would be lost... I can't imagine the pain those 8 families are going through right now.
So even though life is never perfect and I'm pretty tired these days, I am very blessed in so many ways, and I'm very thankful for the wonderful blessings I have.
P.S. Just so you know, I didn't ask the boys to mop my floor. They saw me mopping, and begged to get to try after I had finished. ;0)

We had an apartment a few doors down that caught fire. I took the boys out to see the firetruck, and then almost felt bad that I'd done it since the lady who lived there was out there, just devastated and we were just happy to see firemen up close.

Also, I sometimes love it when the boys take over my chores, but so often I just want to rip the broom out of their hands and say "You're doing it wrong!" because I know I could do it so much quicker/better. So you have inspired me to work on that. Thanks. :)

Don't be too impressed, remember I mopped the floor and THEN let them mop... ;0)

That's very sobering. We've all got so much to be thankful for! And I love the pictures!

yikes...fires scare me.

I think your p.s. is funny. I ask Erik to mop all the time...he loves doing it. Infact he is getting really good at it too that sometimes I don't even need to mop after him...my evil tricks...hehe.

Anyway, keep 'um moppin'

SO glad you guys have been safe in all this! And you should TOTALLY be having your kids mop the floor! Teach 'em young!

Thank you for the post. I needed this reminder. You're such a good example to me.

I hope Caleb is sleeping better now.
